Zoom has announced two new Hard-Disk Recording Studios and a new Handy portable recorder, which will be available from May / June 2007. Here they are...and get ready for the summer!

The new Zoom HD16CD Hard Disk Recording Studio

The HD16CD allows 16-track playback, and 8-track simultaneous recording with 160 virtual takes. Tracks are recorded onto the 80 GB internal hard disk drive via 8 balanced XLR – ¼” phone combo inputs with phantom power.

The HD16CD also has two Hi-Z inputs facilitating direct connection of guitars to the recorder. The HD16CD offers 16-bit/44.1kHz linear PCM recording in WAV format, and over 100 internal effects for guitar / bass and vocal recording, mixing and mastering. In addition to these effects, over 500 drum and bass sounds reside in the integral Drum/Bass machine which has touch sensitive pads. There is a sampler function which lets you add original drum sounds to the drum kits available, and this sampling memory is now 60 seconds (compared to 22 seconds on the MRS-1608). The new Zoom H2 Handy Recorder

Following on from the tremendously successful and groundbreaking Zoom H4 Handy Recorder, Zoom Corporation now announce the release of the new Zoom H2 Handy Recorder.

The H2 will record via the integral one point stereo design microphone, and achieves the Mid/Side (MS) Stereo technique by using a 3 microphone capsule configuration and digital signal processing. General Mid/Side (MS) stereo uses one directional cardioid microphone (M-Mid) and bi-directional cardioid microphone (S-Side), placed at 90 degree angles. The Mid microphone picks up the monophonic sound while the Side microphone will pick up the left/right difference sound. Subtracting and adding the two microphone signals yields separate Left and Right channels, and also permits the adjustment of the pickup angle such as 90 or 120 degrees.

The H2 has an integral USB interface with an audio interface function, making it usable as a USB microphone. The H2 uses WAV 96kHz/48kHz/44.1kHz and MP3 up to 320kbps VBR data format. The EXT MIC IN feature allows the connection of external powered microphones, and the H2 also has a time stamp function for recordings.
