PETER DONOHOE TO OPEN THE YAMAHA INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES

Wednesday 10th September, 2008

Internationally acclaimed pianist Peter Donohoe returns to Malvern to perform the opening concert of the Yamaha International Piano recital programme at Malvern Theatres on September 18th.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s finest concert pianists, Peter Donohoe is a favourite of previous Malvern Festivals and is said to be delighted to be returning to the area to open the first of four concerts in this new Yamaha International Piano Series.

Peter’s programme is an exciting prospect for any discerning music lover and includes six of Bach’s preludes and fugues, Beethoven’s late piano sonata Op.110, and Donohoe’s own towering interpretation of Liszt’s monumental B minor Sonata.

Malvern Theatres marketing director Fred Moroni comments, “We’re delighted that Peter has agreed to open the series for us - it’ll be a real treat for classical music fans. We’re very grateful to Yamaha for their support and look forward to a partnership that will bring the very best pianists here for years to come.”

This inaugural concert will also provide a rare opportunity for the audience to hear Oliver Messiaen’s Cantejodyaya in this, the 100th anniversary year of the composer’s birth.

The series of recitals is a first for both Yamaha and Malvern and also includes three more concerts featuring John Lill (October 30th ), Noriko Ogawa (February 27th 2009) and Nikolai Demidenko (April 3rd 2009).

Yamaha’s Mike Ketley comments, “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering Malvern Theatres in this new Piano concert programme. Yamaha pianos are becoming an increasingly popular feature on the world’s concert platforms and this series allows us to present some of the world’s finest pianists in an idyllic setting whilst reinforcing the quality and musicality of our concert instruments.”
