Cubase Essential 5 by Alan Roberton
10 out of 10 on the November 05, 2009
It is so easy to spends huge amounts of hard earned cash on Cubase, simply because it is so good. I needed to upgrade my old computer and so the software had to be upgraded too. I went from Cubase SX2 to Cubase Essential 5 and must admit to being a bit unsure as to whether the 'cut down' version would be as good as I was used to. I was not disappointed, not only is Essential 5 miles better than SX2, it is so much easier to set up and use. I don't need the full powered, all bells and whistles package that Cubase 5 gives, so if you only need software to put together your work with MIDI, this is it. The best thing about Essential 5 is that there is a great amount of instinctiveness about it. Once loaded and you are up and running (don't forget the dongle!) everything is there, ready to use. I love it.
OK so if I did have oodles of cash I would buy the top package, but believe me, Essential 5 hits the spot beautifully.
A great piece of software.

Got this guitar late last month. Brilliant for that classic rock sound. Good sturdy build. The fake faded patch round the back looks silly, but again the sound you get is amazing especially for the price. For all things rock/blues based then this is the guitar to get. If you want to play funk or pop, then get a fender strat.

Cheap, but definitely not nasty by Simon Ward

I've had one of these for a while now, and have have to say that for the money it's practically unbeatable. Granted, it doesn't have a huge range of ports and sockets (RCA in/out, optical out and line out) but it does one job and does it very well. In fact, my only niggle is that the optical out port didn't have a cover - nothing a bit of gaffer tape didn't fix though.
Works fine with Windows, although you'd be better off downloading ASIO4ALL rather than using the Behringer drivers, and it works perfectly with Linux as well

I didn't really expect much at the price these units come in at but I was pleasantly surprised. They actually perform pretty well for vocals with a good pickup pattern, and with a tweak or two on the EQ pretty much match my Shures. They would also make a great mic for speaker cabs. I suspect I'll be buying some more.

VC30 by Dean S

Brilliant Amp. Great Sound. Price wise I have got what I paid for. The different settings are brilliant, I can play great indie tone's from 90's - such as oasis. Which is what I wanted with my Semi Acoustic guitar.
But I can mix it up and make my own sounds and save up to 4 of them in memory.
Havent turned it up full whack yet, as it will smash all windows, would think the AC models would be better gigging amps for sure, but this is a great first time amp for those who have finished learning, and want to start experimenting with different sounds...
If you like mid 90's overdriven guitar, its a great amp for you.
Does what it says on tin.
Even better, Dolphin despatched within 2 days, and was via DHL to my workplace, was brilliantly packaged, and safe and trustworthy.

Vintage V100 ICON Series Lemon Drop by Siz

I have never played this guitar, but I do know something about it. Listen on.
Last night, I attended an Alan Price set gig, featuring guitarist Bob Tench (no mean player). Before the gig, I got a good look at the instruments on stage, and found to my surprise, not a Gibson LP but a Vintage model - this one. From the looks of it, I'm sure it was standard, with the original reversed neck pickup.
Well, I can tell you, I was completely impressed by how it performed. A sweet Alnico tone from the neck, biting crunchy bridge, and sweet singing sustain throughout. Bob had no difficulty in making it perform, and without that sneak preview, there is no way that I would have known it wasn't a valuable Gibson from way back.
This has to be one of the all-time bargains. Bag one before somebody realizes.

Working in the studio the Behringer PX3000 patch bay comes in useful and for a small price.
This piece of hardware keeps my wires in a good clean untangled condition making sure I can get a mix done in a well organized environment so i can focus on my work.
It hasn't got a expensive look neither has it got an expensive price tag but to be honest you don't need it to look good if you want a job to be done well.

E838 vs EV by Si Evans

Set up 3 of these on a sponserd open mic night using someone elses gear. Very impressive for the price.
Really clear and great top end tone at gain, without the feedback from a stock SM58\\\'using a similar mix.
Have 2 of my own now, very similar response tonally to EV ND767A that i normally use, but at a more agreeable price! My bargain of the month, thanks Dolphin.
